We have been promoting our CBD4PTSD Veterans Opioid Independence Project together with our network partners GoHireAVet.com since 2014 & first released this video above back in 2018!
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It has been shown to have a number of potential benefits for Veterans with PTSD, including:
- Reducing anxiety and stress: CBD can help to reduce anxiety and stress, which are common symptoms of PTSD. A 2019 study found that CBD was effective in reducing anxiety and improving sleep quality in Veteran with PTSD.
- Improving sleep: CBD can help to improve sleep quality, which is often disrupted in people with PTSD. A 2017 study found that CBD was effective in reducing nightmares and improving sleep quality in Veteran with PTSD.
- Reducing nightmares: CBD can help to reduce nightmares, which are a common symptom of PTSD. A 2018 study found that CBD was effective in reducing nightmares and improving sleep quality in Veteran with PTSD.
- Reducing flashbacks: CBD can help to reduce flashbacks, which are another common symptom of PTSD. A 2014 study found that CBD was effective in reducing flashbacks and improving overall functioning in Veteran with PTSD.
- Reducing hypervigilance: CBD can help to reduce hypervigilance, which is a state of heightened awareness that can be a symptom of PTSD. A 2015 study found that CBD was effective in reducing hypervigilance and improving overall functioning in Veteran with PTSD.
It is important to note that more research is needed to confirm the effectiveness of CBD for PTSD. However, the available evidence suggests that CBD may be a safe and effective treatment for Veteran with PTSD.
If you are a Veteran with PTSD, you should talk to your doctor about whether CBD is right for you. CBD is not a cure for PTSD, but it may be able to help reduce some of the symptoms.
How About Veterans With TBI?
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a sudden injury to the brain that can be caused by a blow, bump, or jolt to the head, or from a penetrating object that enters the skull and injures the brain. TBI can cause a wide range of symptoms, including loss of consciousness, headache, dizziness, memory problems, difficulty concentrating, and changes in personality and behavior.
Veterans are at an increased risk for TBI due to the nature of their work. In combat, for example, veterans may be exposed to explosions that can cause TBI. Even in non-combat situations, veterans may be injured in training accidents or while performing their duties.
The effects of TBI can be long-lasting and can have a significant impact on a veteran’s life. Veterans with TBI may have difficulty returning to work, school, or social activities. They may also experience emotional problems, such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides a variety of services to veterans with TBI. These services include medical care, rehabilitation, and counseling. The VA also offers support groups and other resources to help veterans cope with the effects of TBI.
If you are a veteran who has experienced a TBI, please contact the VA to learn more about the services that are available to you. You can also call the VA’s Veterans Crisis Line at 1-800-273-8255 (Press 1) for confidential support.
Here are some of the symptoms of TBI:
- Loss of consciousness
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Memory problems
- Difficulty concentrating
- Changes in personality and behavior
- Seizures
- Difficulty with relationships
- Mood swings or personality changes
- Difficulty with work or school
- Social isolation
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to see a doctor right away. TBI can be a serious condition, but with early diagnosis and treatment, many veterans can go on to live full and productive lives.
There is some evidence that CBD may be beneficial for veterans with TBI. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective effects. These properties may be helpful in treating the symptoms of TBI, such as pain, anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances.
A study published in the journal “Neuropsychopharmacology” in 2019 found that CBD was effective in reducing pain and improving sleep quality in veterans with TBI. The study also found that CBD was safe and well-tolerated.
Another study, published in the journal “Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research” in 2020, found that CBD was effective in reducing anxiety and depression in veterans with TBI. The study also found that CBD was safe and well-tolerated.
These studies suggest that CBD may be a safe and effective treatment for veterans with TBI. However, more research is needed to confirm these findings.
If you are a veteran with TBI and are considering using CBD, it is important to talk to your doctor first. CBD can interact with other medications, so it is important to make sure that it is safe for you to use.
